SAKAR - A Trusted Name for Waste Water Solutions
Dissolved air flotation (DAF) is a water treatment process that clarifies waste waters by the removal of suspended matter such as oil or solids. The removal is achieved by dissolving air in the water or wastewater under pressure and then releasing the air at atmospheric pressure in a flotation tank basin. The released air forms tiny bubbles which adhere to the suspended matter causing the suspended matter to float to the surface of the water where it may then be removed by a skimming device.
DAF is particularly suited to water supplies with characteristics such as those containing low density particles and those yielding low density particles following chemical coagulation.
DAF has several advantages. It is more efficient than settling in removing low density particles, even at the much higher hydraulic loadings. There are two main types of Dissolved Air Flotation: Circular Type and Rectangular.
Rectangular Dissolved Air Flotation systems are smaller in size compare to circular disslolved air flotation system. This type of DAF requires scraping mechanism mounted on top driven by chain. Designing of Rectangular DAF may vary as per requirements and type of wastewater.
Rectangular DAF requires less space so it found preferable to those who do not have more space for mounting.
Circular DAF are more efficient than Rectangular DAF. It requires more space as it has circular processing tank. Circular Dissolved Air Flotation system does not require chain driven scraping syste to collect floting sludge. Circular Dissolved Air Flotation system performs faster than rectangle DAF.
